Where to stay on the Albanian Riviera: Sarandë vs Ksamil vs Himarë vs Dhërmi

The Albanian Riviera isn't one destination — it's four towns with very different personalities strung along roughly 80 kilometers of coastline between Vlorë and Sarandë. Pick the wrong base and you'll spend your trip commuting hairpin roads; pick the right one and the holiday runs itself. Here's the honest breakdown, by traveler type.

Sarandë — the practical hub, though the town beach isn't the star

Sarandë is the largest town on the Riviera and functions as the gateway to the whole southern coast. It has the most infrastructure by far: big supermarkets, pharmacies, ATMs everywhere, a long seafront promenade packed with restaurants, and fast ferries to Corfu for an easy day trip to Greece. The town beach itself is decent but not spectacular — fine shingle in places, good water, but crowded in summer and without the powder sand Ksamil is famous for.

Himarë — the balance of beach, authenticity and price

Himarë keeps the Riviera feeling "real": developed enough to eat and sleep well, but still carrying the fishing-village feel in its older quarters.
