Himarë — the Riviera's laid-back middle
Halfway between Vlorë and Sarandë, Himarë is the Riviera at half-volume — beach clubs by day, simple tavernas by night, and access to the most secret coves on the coast.
Why Himarë?
Himarë is the Goldilocks pick on the Riviera — bigger than Dhërmi, calmer than Sarandë, and the best base for hidden beaches like Livadhi, Filikuri, Llamani and Jala.
When to visit
Mid-June through mid-September is peak. Late September is magical — sea still warm, beach clubs winding down, prices dropping 30 %.
Where to stay
Spilea Beach area for vibes, Potam for quiet sand, the old town up the hill for character. Decent rooms €45–€90.
What to eat
Fresh fish at Taverna Lefteri in the old town. Beach lunches at Folie Marine (Filikuri) — pricier but worth it.
Don't miss
- Filikuri Beach — boat-only access from Himarë port
- Jala for the beach-club afternoon
- Old Himarë — the inland fortified village
- Llogara Pass — the iconic mountain–sea drop on the way north
How to get there
From Vlorë: 1.5h via Llogara. From Sarandë: 1h. Daily buses both ways.
