Beach of Durrës

This is the beach that put Durrës on the map for Albanian seaside holidays long before the Riviera further south became fashionable — a long, sandy stretch backed by hotels and a promenade that fills with families through the summer months. The sand runs flat and wide, making it one of the easiest coastal spots in the country for young kids, and the city's port and old town sit close enough for an easy half-day detour. It is less about dramatic scenery than convenience: swimmable water a short drive or tram ride from Tirana, with none of the winding roads the south demands.
