How to Get to Ksamil — Every Route, Time and Cost (2026)
Ksamil sits at the far southern tip of Albania. Here's every realistic way to reach it — from Corfu, Tirana, Sarandë or the Greek border — with times, prices and the fastest option for your start point.
Ksamil is beautiful and remote in equal measure — it sits at the very bottom of Albania, 20 km south of Sarandë, and there is no airport, train or direct international bus. Getting here is half the planning of a Ksamil trip, so here is every realistic route, ranked by where you're starting from.
The fastest way: fly to Corfu, ferry to Sarandë
For most international travellers this is the quickest and often cheapest option. Fly into Corfu (CFU) in Greece — served by budget airlines across Europe all summer — then take the passenger ferry across to Sarandë (30–70 minutes depending on the boat, around €21 one way, passport required, three to four crossings a day in season). From Sarandë it's a 30-minute hop to Ksamil by taxi, transfer or the local furgon minibus.
From Tirana (Albania's main airport)
Tirana International Airport (TIA) is about four and a half hours from Ksamil by road. Your options:
- Private transfer — the simplest: booked door-to-door, fixed price, no changes. Best if you're arriving late, travelling as a family, or carrying luggage.
- Rental car — the most flexible if you want to explore the Riviera coast, the Blue Eye and Butrint on the way down. Roads are paved and in good condition; the drive is scenic.
- Bus + furgon — the budget route: a long-distance bus Tirana→Sarandë (4–5 hours, ~€10), then a local minibus or taxi to Ksamil. Cheapest, slowest, least comfortable with bags.
From the Greek border or Igoumenitsa
If you're driving up from Greece, the Kakavija or Konispol/Sagiada crossings put you within one to two hours of Ksamil. Ferries also run from Igoumenitsa to Corfu and onward, or you can cross by land and drive down through Gjirokastër.
Getting around once you're there
Ksamil is small and walkable, but the beaches and Butrint are spread out. Furgon minibuses run the coast road to Sarandë for €1–€2; taxis are €15–€20; a rental car is ideal if you're combining Ksamil with the Blue Eye and the Riviera. In peak August, don't drive into the village centre between noon and 2pm — park outside and walk in.
Which option is right for you?
- Arriving from abroad, no car needed → Corfu flight + ferry to Sarandë + transfer to Ksamil.
- Arriving at Tirana, want to explore → rental car down the Riviera.
- Arriving at Tirana, want zero hassle → private transfer straight to your hotel.
- On a tight budget → bus to Sarandë, then furgon.
