Vlorë — where the Adriatic meets the Ionian
Albania's third city is also its summer playground — long sandy beaches, the wild Karaburun peninsula, and the gateway to the Riviera.
Why Vlorë?
Vlorë sits where two seas meet, with a 25 km waterfront promenade, easy beaches and the launchpad for boat trips into the protected Karaburun-Sazan Marine National Park.
When to visit
June–September for swimming. The promenade is alive year-round though — even December evenings draw crowds.
Where to stay
The Lungomare (waterfront) for the buzz, Plazhi i Ri (New Beach) for the long sand, Radhima (15 min south) for quieter family stays. Hotels from €50.
What to eat
Skarë (grilled meats) and frutat e detit (seafood). Restorant Argi for the view, Trojas for honest local food.
Don't miss
- Karaburun Peninsula — boat tour to Haxhi Ali cave
- Independence Monument — Albania declared independence here in 1912
- Llogara National Park — pine forest pass on the road south
- Zvërnec Monastery on its lagoon island
How to get there
From Tirana: 2h by car or bus. From Berat: 1.5h. Vlorë is also where the Adriatic Coast highway meets the Riviera road.
