The route to the lakes below Maja Jezercë — at 2,694 metres the highest peak in the Albanian Alps — is one of the more ambitious day walks out of Theth, climbing well above the tree line to a scatter of glacial lakes that only reveal themselves in the last stretch. Moderate grading covers a lot of ground here: the approach itself is straightforward, but altitude and loose scree near the lakes catch out anyone expecting an easy stroll. Snow can linger at this elevation into June, so late summer and early autumn are the more reliable months.
