How to get around Albania — bus, car, ferry, plane
Buses (and minibuses, locally called "furgon") cover most routes cheaply. Renting a car gives you the Riviera and Alps. Here's how to combine them.
Bus & furgon
The public transport backbone. No central booking website — you show up at the station the morning of travel. Tirana to Sarandë: 5h, €10. Tirana to Berat: 2h, €5.
Car rental
From €25/day off-season, €40–€60 in August. Manual is cheaper. A car opens up the Riviera and the Alps; without one you're tied to bus times.
Lake Komani ferry
The famous 3h cinematic boat ride between Shkodër and Valbonë. Daily May–October.
Domestic flights
None. Albania has only one international airport (Tirana). A second (Vlorë) is opening for 2026 commercial flights.
Ferries
Adriatic links to Italy (Bari, Ancona, Brindisi → Durrës) and from Sarandë to Greek Corfu.
