How Much Does a Trip to Albania Cost in 2026?

Albania remains one of the best-value destinations in Europe, but "cheap" now comes with an asterisk: the Riviera in July and August has caught up with the rest of the Mediterranean, while the mountains, the interior and the shoulder season are still remarkably kind to your wallet. What you spend depends far more on when and where you go than on how you travel. The currency is the lekë (ALL), though many coastal businesses quote in euros too.

Three rough daily budgets

• Backpacker. Hostel dorms or simple guesthouses, byrek and street food, buses and furgons, the occasional beach day. You can travel comfortably on a modest daily budget, especially inland and off-season.
• Mid-range. A private room or small hotel, sit-down dinners with wine or raki, a rental car for a few days, boat trips and entry tickets. This is where most travellers land, and it still feels like a bargain by Western standards.
• Comfort. Boutique hotels and beach resorts, taxis and drivers, guided experiences, seafood dinners on the water. Even at the top end, Albania costs noticeably less than Italy, Greece or Croatia.

Where the money actually goes

Food is the great value: a coffee, a byrek, a market lunch all cost very little, and a full taverna dinner with local wine stays modest away from the busiest beaches. Accommodation is the swing factor — a Riviera room in August can cost several times what the same room costs in May or October. Transport is cheap by bus and furgon; a rental car costs more but unlocks the Alps and the coast.

How to keep it low

Travel in late spring or September, base yourself inland or in a less-hyped coastal town, eat where locals eat, and carry some cash for villages where cards aren't taken. Do that and Albania still delivers a Mediterranean holiday for a fraction of the neighbours' prices.
