Accessible travel in Albania
Honest answer: Albania is improving fast but still has gaps. Tirana's flat boulevards and modern hotels work. Old towns (Berat, Gjirokastër) have steep cobbles and stairs. Plan around that and you'll have a great trip.
✅ What works well
New parts of Tirana are remarkably accessible — wide pavements, ramps, modern hotels with elevators and roll-in showers.
- •Tirana — Lana River walk, Skanderbeg Square (paved)
- •Saranda Lungomare — flat seafront promenade
- •Vlorë Lungomare — wide and flat
- •Major hotels (Plaza, Rogner) — fully accessible rooms
⚠️ What's difficult
Heritage cities have stone streets and stairs. Beaches mostly lack accessible access ramps. Public transport (buses, furgons) is rarely accessible. Theth/Valbona — entirely off-limits for wheelchairs.
🚗 Get a private accessible vehicle
Standard rental cars don't cover wheelchair needs. Book a private driver with accessible van — €100–150/day. We can connect you with one.

Limited but improving: Vlorë Riviera Hotel section, Saranda's in-town beach (Plazhi i Pulëbardhës), some Ksamil beach clubs offer beach wheelchairs in summer.
🏨 Best accessible hotels
Plaza Tirana, Tirana International, Rogner Hotel Tirana, Hotel Pavarsia (Saranda). Always confirm with the hotel directly before booking — "accessible" standards vary.
